Violet F. Hanson, 92, a longtime Lawrence Township resident, passed away peacefully Friday, February 20, 2026, at Cornerstone Villa in Buhl after a short illness.
Born March 28, 1933, at home in Iron Range Township, she was the daughter of Herman and Selma (Mischke) Mattfield. Violet was the fifth of fourteen children. She grew up in Bovey and the surrounding area.
On April 21, 1951, Violet married Lyle R. Hanson in Bovey, MN. Violet and Lyle lived and raised their family in the home they built in 1955. Violet proudly remained living in her home for 71 years until her passing. She enjoyed being a homemaker and was a proud wife, mother, and grandmother.
Violet enjoyed gardening, working in her yard, canning, cooking (especially pancakes) and taking care of her home and family. She loved visiting with everyone and sharing stories of the old days. Violet was a longtime member of the Lawron Presbyterian Church and lived a wonderful life of faith in the Lord. She dearly loved all of her children, grandchildren, family and friends, and always greeted everyone with a smile and kindness.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herman and Selma Mattfield; her husband, Lyle Hanson; sons Dale (in infancy) and Allen Hanson; grandson Travis Mallum; and siblings Maynard, Norman, Roger, and Raymond Mattfield, Janet Delich, and Joyce Gonzalez.
Survivors include her children Alice (Eugene) Wigand of Bovey, MN; Lois (Tom) Green of Remer, MN; Gary (Theresa) Hanson of Kenai, AK; and daughter-in-law Laurie Hanson of Mt. Iron, MN; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings Sylvia Noworatzky, Delores Eigenberger-Christianson, and Herman, Robert, Gerald, Weldon, and Meloy Mattfield.
A service and celebration of life with family and friends will be held at the Lawron Presbyterian Church in Lawrence Township on Saturday March 28, 2026. There will be a visitation starting at 10:00 AM, service at 11:00 AM. An interment will be held at the Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine at 2:00 PM.
