ValJean (Williams) Toivonen

ValJean Toivonen, 77 of Grand Rapids, MN died on Saturday, June 3, 2023, in the Majestic Pines Assisted Living in Grand Rapids.

          Born on June 19, 1945, in Aitkin, MN, she was the daughter of Algot and Laura (Kehoe) Williams. She graduated from Virginia High School, and later received her bachelor’s degree in teaching from University of Minnesota, Duluth. She married Roy Toivonen on December 21, 1969, in Grand Rapids. She loved to do quilting, stamping, crafts, going to garage sales, but mostly loved hanging out with her grandkids.

          Survivors include her children; Amy (Clint) Miller and Jon (Nicole) Toivonen, her grandchildren; Cash Miller, Claire Miller, Riley Toivonen, Laura Toivonen, Zoe Toivonen and Maija Toivonen, great-granddaughter; Lily, and a nephew; Marcus Dunstan.

          She was preceded in death by her husband Roy, her parents, sister; Barb Young and 2 nieces; Kristin Dunstan and Tina Curry.

          There will be a gathering of family and friends from 4:00-6:00 PM on Thursday, June 8, 2023, in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine. Interment will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 9, 2023, in the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine.
