Ronald A. Mattfield, 80, rural Grand Rapids, died Saturday, May 23, 2026, in his home.
Born September 26, 1945, in Grand Rapids, he was the son of Albert J. and Elsie W. (Mischke) Mattfield. A lifelong Itasca County resident, he attended Grand Rapids High School and had been a heavy equipment mechanic for twenty years at Min Tac and twenty years at Hibbing Taconite. He had been a member of the Community Presbyterian Church of Grand Rapids, had been a 4 H leader, especially in shooting sports, and had been a member of the Grand Rapids V.F.W. He was a U.S. Army Veteran having served in Viet Nam.
His parents and siblings, Bernard, Mae Anderson, and Howard preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Donna; children, Brent (DJ) Mattfield, Vangie Mattfield, and Conn (Cathy) Mattfield; six grandchildren; one great granddaughter; and a sister, Eunice James.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
