Katherine L. (Poncelet) Block

Katherine L. Block, 75, of Balsam, MN, passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Sanford Health Center in Fargo, ND.  She was born in Grand Rapids, MN, on October 21, 1949, to John and Helen (Cross) Poncelet.  Kathy grew up between Coleraine, MN, and Seattle, WA, as her father worked for Burlington Northern Railway.  She graduated from high school in Seattle in 1967 and came back to Minnesota where she met Ronald Block in 1989.  Not long after, Kathy and Ronald were married and settled in Balsam on their farm where they started a family.  Together they fostered many children at their home and adopted their daughter, Sabrina, in 1998.  She loved her garden and tended to the many different types of animals on her farm.  Kathy was a longtime member of farmers’ markets in the area where she shared her harvest.  Above all, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren whom she loved so dearly.

Kathy is survived by her children Sabrina (Devin) Price, Darrin (Sarah) King, Gerald (Barbara) Nypert and her multiple foster children who she always held in her heart, siblings Paul (Deanna) Poncelet, Margaret Poncelet, Mary (Tony) Poncelet, Michael Poncelet, twenty-one grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Husband Ronald and siblings Francis, Henry, Robert, Fredrick and Christine. 

There will be a mass of Christian burial held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Church in Bigfork, MN.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to mass starting at 10:00 AM and interment will take place at the Balsam Cemetery.
