Jobi J. Hietala, 50 of Taconite, died on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Jobi was born on May 21, 1973, in Grand Rapids, MN, the son of John W. and Marilyn (Maras) Hietala. He lived in Grand Rapids, Cannon Falls, Duluth and was a resident of Taconite since 2003. He graduated from Greenway High School, attended Itasca Community College and was currently working at U.S. Steel Minntac with 23 years of service. He was a member of the Sons of American Legion, and enjoyed moto-cross, snowmobiling, woodworking, hunting and rides on his side by side and ATV.
Survivors include his parents, John and Marilyn Hietala; two sisters, Cheryl (Gary) Sjostrand and Karen Hill; nieces and nephews, Morgan (John) Hopkins, Matthew Sjostrand, Staci Cluff and Chris and Grant Hill; aunts and uncles, Joyce (Aarre Kangas) Ilola, Edie (Rick) Johnson, and James (Kristi) Maras; and close friends, Damian Hoey, Tom “Pic” Mikulich and Cousin Marc Johnson.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jaycee Lynn Hietala; his grandparents, Oscar and Ellen Hietala and Joseph and Florence Maras; aunt, Alyce Santa; and uncle, Alvin Hietala.
There will be a gathering of family and friends from 12:00PM-2:00 PM, Saturday, February 3, 2024 in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery in the spring.
