Guy D. Abernathey, 91, Bovey, died Friday, October 11, 2024, in his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born March 31, 1933, in Vinton, IA, he was the son of Cecil G. and Hazel M. (Sanborn) Abernathey. Guy grew up and attended school in Vinton, IA and had been a resident of Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota, and California. He had been a logger, a machinist on the Apollo Project in California and retired from Hibbing Taconite with 22 years of service. Guy and Berta Mae Buck were married on April 24, 1955, in Vinton, IA. Guy was an ordained minister in the Assembly of God Church and was a U.S. Navy Veteran of the Korean War.
His parents, Cecil and Hazel Abernathey; two sons, Mark Dean and Scott Kevin Abernathey; a daughter, Lisa Mari Abernathey; two great granddaughters, Kylie Cagle and Emma Abernathey; and siblings, Buck Abernathey and Loretta Ferguson preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife, Berta Mae; children, Bethel (Jeff) Fremouw, Kent (Della) Abernathey, and Clint (Maria) Abernathey; thirty-one grandchildren, sixty-five great grandchildren, and six great great grandchildren, and his brother; Steve Abernathey.
Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM funeral service on Friday, October 18, 2024 in the Triumphant Life Church, Coleraine. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine.
