Gerald A. “Geeg” Davies, 71, of Grand Rapids, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday,
December 16, 2025 at his favorite place to be – the cabin.
Born December 26, 1953, in Aitkin, Minnesota, Gerald was the son of Cal and Verna (Lundeen) Davies. Known by many names—Big Z, Turtle, Gramps, Geegus Christ, Jerry, and simply Geeg—he was truly one of a kind. Gerald lived most of his life in Itasca County and was a proud 1971 graduate of Greenway High School.
Throughout his working years, Gerald was known for his strong work ethic and skillful hands. He worked for L & M Radiator in Hibbing, the Blandin Paper Company, and later as a traveling union millwright. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Grand Rapids and the Grand Rapids Moose Lodge.
Gerald had a lifelong love of staying busy—especially if it involved starting a project (and
sometimes several at once). He enjoyed welding and fabricating, reading, fishing, “deer
hunting,” attending auctions both in person and online, spending time at the bus/cabin, riding his four-wheeler, snowmobiling, and anything that let him tinker, build, or explore.
If you knew Gerald, you knew how lucky you were. He was the life of every gathering—the one who could walk into a room and instantly lift the mood. A natural jokester with perfect timing, he had a sarcastic sense of humor that kept everyone laughing. And that laugh—loud, contagious, and unforgettable—filled rooms and hearts alike.
More than anything, Gerald loved being “Gramps.” His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life. Whether it was sharing stories, cracking jokes, lending a helping hand, or simply being present, he treasured every moment spent with them. His love for them was obvious, unwavering, and deeply felt—and being their grandpa was one of his greatest joys.
Beyond the humor was a man with a genuinely big heart. Gerald would do anything for anyone, no questions asked. He showed up when help was needed, offered encouragement freely, and made people feel seen and welcomed in his own special way.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, Cal and Verna Davies; his first wife, Linda (Wick) Davies; his brother, Jack Davies; and his grandson, Braiden Davies.
He is survived by his wife, Denise J. (Flohaug) Davies; his children, Jamie Fisher, Ryan
(Jackie) Davies, and Kelly (Ginger) Flohaug; his grandchildren, Brenna Serfling, Jerricca
Davies, Ryker Davies, Ramsey Fisher, Linden Fisher, Lundin Flohaug, Jordin Flohaug,
Jaide Sondrol, Katelin Sondrol, and Paige Sondrol; his five great-grandchildren, Kaydence,
Layton, Knox, Stetson, and Walker, whom he adored; Linda’s mother, Carol Wick, and the
extended Wick family; and his mother-in-law, Etta Jane Flohaug.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. until the 3:00 p.m. funeral service on Saturday,
December 27, 2025, at the Peterson Funeral Chapel in Coleraine. Interment will follow at
Lakeview Cemetery in Coleraine. A time of fellowship and luncheon will be held afterward at the Grand Rapids Moose Lodge.
In true Geeg style, the family invites those attending to come dressed comfortably—no dress
clothes needed. Grab your favorite flannel or denim button-down and wear it with your jeans.
The family also invites everyone to help celebrate Gerald’s life by sharing their favorite photos of Geeg. To leave a photo of Geeg, visit the website at petersonfuneralchapelofcoleraine.com
While his absence leaves a silence that feels unreal—the kind where you expect to hear his
laugh echoing from the next room or a perfectly timed joke—Gerald’s family and friends carry immense gratitude for the laughter, love, and joy he brought into their lives. Though hearts are heavy with grief, they are also full of thankfulness for the memories he created so freely. His legacy lives on through his family—especially in the lives of the grandchildren and great-grandchildren who knew him as Gramps—and in every shared story, smile, and moment of laughter that echoes just a little louder because of him.
