Elaine M. (Nivala) Martin

          Elaine M. Martin, 78, longtime resident of Grand Rapids, died Thursday, February 2, 2023 at her residence.  She was born January 12, 1945 to William and Alma (Huse) Nivala in Custer, SD.  After high school Elaine went to college, receiving a degree in Nursing.  She was employed as a certified nursing assistant with Woodland Homes.  She was a member of Trout Lake Apostolic Lutheran Church.  She was an extremely hard worker and a social butterfly.  She loved going to garage sales, sewing, knitting, and associating with people everywhere she went.  Elaine was also quirky.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. 

          She is survived by her children, Peggy Martin, Tracey (Shawn) Anderson, both of Shakopee, MN, and Brian (Ellie) Martin, Norwood Young America, MN, 4 siblings, Kenneth (Judy) Nivala, Des Moines, IA, Wayne Nivala, Bovey, MN, William (Dixie) Nivala, Tucson, AZ, and David (Laurie) Nivala, Bovey, MN, five grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

          Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the 11:00 AM Memorial Service on Saturday, May 20, 2023 in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine. Arrangements by the Peterson Funeral Chapel and Cremation Services.
