Duane Earl Schwartz, 66, Bovey, died Sunday, October 14, 2012 at his home due to complications related to exposure to Agent Orange during the Vietnam War. He was born in Grand Rapids to John and Mildred Schwartz on
July 8, 1946. He was a published author of novels and poetry and loved by many. He was an Army Veteran of the Vietnam War. Duane liked to design and build things including his home, which he built with his wife, Betty. He enjoyed riding his Goldwing, watching movies, and generally driving Betty crazy. Duane liked classic cars and purchased a convertible and took his last vacation driving Route 66. He was a member of Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Coleraine.
Duane is survived by his wife, Betty, children, Rodney (Colleen) Schwartz, Eagan, MN, Kirsten (Brett) Bengtson, Elk River, MN, Jamie (David Broomell) Schwartz, Lake Elmo, MN, John (Brenda) Valentine, Lake Tahoe, CA, Brenda (Laurent) Brazier, Aliso Viejo, CA, James Schieman, Marble, MN, and Dawn Marie (Mark Payne) Worley, Bovey, MN, brothers, Lee Schwartz, Jack (Sherry) Schwartz, Jim (Mary) Schwartz, Jerry Schwartz, Paul (Becky) Schwartz, and Skip (Trish) Schwartz, sisters, Beverly (Dick) Hicks, and Donna Dimich, sister in law, Sharon Kolstad, and 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother and sister in law, Don and Rita Schwartz, brother, Mike Schwartz, sister in law, Betty Schwartz, and brother in law, Peter Dimich.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm. Saturday, October 20, 2012 in Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Coleraine, MN with the Rev. Fr. Dennis Hoffman celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. Friday with parish prayers at 7:30 pm in the Peterson Funeral Chapel, Coleraine, and continue at Noon Saturday at Church.
He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
