Darrell "Andy" Anderson Obituary

Darrell Dean “Andy” Anderson, 78 was born October 14, 1946, in Grand Rapids, MN to Ralph and Bernice Anderson and grew up in Pengilly.  Andy served in the U. S. Navy and following his service time, he met and fell in love with Sara Facchinni.  They were married on November 17, 1973, in Nashwauk.  They had a very full life together and had two children, Greg and Justine, and many hunting dogs.  Darrell worked for over thirty years for National Steel in Keewatin, retiring in 2003.  He spent most of his later years in his beautiful gardens and canning their bounty.  He was an amazing grandpa and taught his grandkids so many things.  He had many nicknames; Andy, Santa, Hippie, Big Hip, Bigfoot, and Unc.  He was an avid sportsman and loved hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley.  Andy was president of the  Greenway Snowmobile Club and raised hunting dogs for several years.  Darrell was a genuine man and had many lifelong friends.  If you ran into him, you knew it would be at least twenty minutes of talking.  He was always ready for a chat.  His big booming laugh was absolutely contagious.  He and Sara always laughed together.  They enjoyed camping, traveling, skiing, hosting BBQ’s and sliding parties.  He was such a wonderful husband, father, uncle, grandpa, and friend.  He will be deeply missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Bernice Anderson and his loving wife Sara.

Survivors include his son, Greg (Mari Jo) Anderson of Bovey and Justine Anderson of Rochester Hills, MI; grandchildren, Waylon, Jacie, and Andie; his final hunting dog “Duke;” Sisters, Beverly Houman, Bonnie Ballou, and Colleen Paulson; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until the 1:00 PM funeral service on Tuesday, May 13, 2025 in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine.  Interment will be in the Nashwauk Cemetery with a luncheon to follow in the Greenway Snowmobile Club, Calumet.
