Ardis (Ziegler) Rhoades, age 95, of Coleraine MN, passed away on December 30th, 2024 at her home surrounded by family.
She was born July 6th 1929 at her family farm in Fingal, North Dakota. She had 4 siblings. Her father taught her on the farm that a girl can do anything a boy can do. She met Mac Rhoades when attending Valley City State Teachers College and they married on June 25th, 1950. They met at a dance and remained dancing until Mac’s death on January 4th, 1996. They initially moved to Bovey and then to Coleraine in 1952, where Mac taught Chemistry at the Itasca Community College. Mike, Pat and Bruce were born one year apart and Ann came four years later. Mike slept in a crib in their bedroom, Pat in a crib and Bruce in a bassinet in their dining room.
They were very active in the United Methodist Church and later at First United Church. Ardis had high energy and was very crafty and loved to organize church bazaars and school activities. She was a substitute teacher at Greenway. She loved the Twins and Greenway sports. Known as the cookie queen on the block, she fed a lot of her kids friends. She really took an interest in people and activities. She loved to read, attending band concerts and looking at “trees without leaves”.
She is proceeded in death by her parents (Morva Shay and Stanley Ziegler), sister Janet Anderson , brother Russ Ziegler, daughter Pat and son in law Gary Lawson, son Bruce Rhoades, daughter in law Michele Rhoades.
She is survived by son Mike Rhoades, daughter Ann Rhoades and husband Gary Rhoades, daughter in law Lola Rhoades, 11 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one expected in April 2025.
Funeral will be held at First United Church, 207 Kerr Ave, Coleraine, MN on Saturday January 4th, 2025 at 2pm with a visitation starting at 1:00. Reverend Arlin Talley will officiate. She requested no flowers at her service and she wanted a cookie party afterwards. Guests are asked to wear casual green to represent Greenway. Go Raiders!
