Sylvia Troumbly Obituary

          Sylvia (Rich) Troumbly, age 88 of Grand Rapids, MN passed away Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at her home.

          Sylvia was born in Woodside Township, MN to Cecil and Evelyn (Klink) Rich. At 13 her family moved to Bovey, MN. She was amazed at the diversity of people and nationalities. She graduated from Greenway High School in 1949. In the fall of 1949 she married James “Slimmy” Troumbly. Along with raising her family, she continued her higher education. She obtained her bachelor’s degree at Bemidji State University. She returned to Greenway as an art teacher. After teaching many years, she returned to college and obtained her master’s degree from the U of M Duluth, then took a new position at Greenway as Student Counselor and retired after 31 years.

          Sylvia was the co-founder of Star of the North Humane Society in Coleraine, stepping down after 20 plus years. Through the years she had many hobbies, drawing, painting, ceramics, but her favorite was reading. She often read two to three books per week. She shared this passion with others by giving her books to friends, family and the library.

          Sylvia was preceded in death by her mother and father.

          She is survived by her husband James “Slimmy” Troumbly, her children; Deborah Trboyevich, Heather (John) Carpentier and Shawn (Paula) Troumbly. A sister; Charlotte Schullo of Bemidji, MN, grandchildren; Christopher, Troy, Brandon, Nicole, Travis, Keshia, Mitchell, Sam and Ben. Great-grandchildren; Marek, Lexi, Kira, Max, Thadeus, Isaac, Nora and Max.

          Sylvia’s wishes were to not have a formal funeral.
