Robert Hageman Obituary

Robert H. Hageman, 98, resident of Oak Hill Assisted Living in Grand Rapids, formerly of Bovey, passed away on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 in the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital.
Bob was born on January 27, 1919 to George and Eva Hageman in Lake City, MN. He graduated from high school in 1936, moved to Bovey to work in his brother George’s grocery business and attend Itasca Junior College. He graduated in June 1938.
He met his future wife, Ione Hess, in 1941 when she started to work in Hageman’s Store. He was called to serve in the Army during WWII. He was stationed in Europe. When he returned home, he and Ione were married on July 9, 1945. They continued to work in the store and bought the business from George in 1964. They retired in 1975.
He was active in the community organizations: Greenway Lions Club, Bovey Civic Club, Bovey Library Board, Greenway Knights of Columbus, and was a director of the First National Bank of Bovey.
Bob loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, picking berries and spending time at the cabin on Wasson Lake. He also enjoyed watching college and professional sports. He was an avid fan and supporter of Greenway Raiders sports teams.
Bob loved dogs and children. He was a very caring and sharing person, who found joy in giving (especially candy). He loved life and always had a positive attitude.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Ione, her parents and siblings, his parents, six brothers and five sisters.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Beth Sigfrinius; son, Robert G. Hageman; grandchildren, Casey Hageman (Jessika Plackner and son Alex) and Krystl (Tyler) Steinhart; sister-in-law, Pauline Hess; many nieces and nephews, and long time friend, Bill Carlson.
