Nolan S. Sorenson, 95, longtime Coleraine resident, died on Friday, November 17, 2017 in Grand Rapids.
Born September 10, 1922 in Coleraine, he was the son of Selmer and Alice (Shegrud) Sorenson. Nolan taught school in Bagley, MN, in the Greenway Grades, and in the Van Dyke Elementary School in Coleraine. He finished his 35 plus year career in the Greenway school district as the elementary librarian. He was a member of the First United Church of Coleraine and Bovey, had been a member of the Coleraine City flag committee, was very active in supporting the Coleraine public library, and was an avid wood carver and amateur poet.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Selmer and Alice Sorenson; his wife of 53 years, Helen; a daughter, Linda Hauble; a grandson, Jay MacNeil; a brother, Myron; and a sister, Arlene.
Survivors include his children, Jean (Ron) Zobenica, Sandy (Glenn) Phillips, Jim MacNeil, Kevin (Laurie) Sorenson, and Rick (Paula) Sorenson; thirteen grandchildren; and seventeen great grandchildren.
Visitation will be 12:00 Noon until the 1:30 PM funeral service on Monday, November 27, 2017 in the First United Church of Coleraine and Bovey. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine. Memorials are preferred to the First United Church, the Coleraine Public Library, or Itasca Hospice.
