Marilyn Kay Mason, Coleraine, MN, died on Friday, July 28, 2017 at home surrounded by family.
She was born on February 19, 1936 in Ida Grove, Iowa to Vierl and Vera (Anderson) McClow.
When Marilyn was 16, her mother and grandmother were killed in a car accident and Marilyn took over the farm to help her father because her two brothers were serving in the Navy during World War II. She married Jim Mason and had a son, Ted, born in 1966. She received her Bachelor of Music Education from Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa in 1958. She received her Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan in 1962. Marilyn was a member of the church choir director for decades, was a member of the Itasca Symphony Orchestra, taught as a substitute teacher in schools all around the area, as well as teaching private piano and vocal lessons. She also taught at Itasca Community College. She was also a member of the Grand Rapids Garden Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her two brothers, Marvin and Wayne McClow; her sister, Mavis Green.
She is survived by her son, Ted, Coleraine; granddaughter, Bailey Ann Mason, Coleraine.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, August 6, 2017 at the First United Church of Coleraine during the regular service. The Rev. C. Arlin Talley will officiate
