Margaret E. (Gould) McPherson

Margaret E. “Mugs” McPherson, 100, returned to her heavenly Father on September 18, 2018 at Brookstone Manor in Grand Rapids.

Margaret was born on February 5, 1918 to Jay and Isabel (McGuire) Gould.  She grew up in Coleraine, with her six siblings.  She married Arnie Tuomala in 1937. They had two sons, Jay Gerald and Robert William.  Arnie died unexpectedly in 1962, and several years later Margaret married Kenneth McPherson.  They moved to Minneapolis where they lived until Kenneth passed away.  Margaret returned to the Iron Range, living in Nashwauk and Coleraine. 

Throughout her life she was strong in her Catholic Faith and became an honorary Carmelite.  She enjoyed going to Mass, praying the Rosary, and helping with many church projects.  She liked traveling, sewing, crafting, doing puzzles, and most of all spending time with her family and friends.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Isabel Gould, her first husband Arnie Tuomala and second husband Kenneth McPherson, twin sister Mary Ziebol, brothers James, Robert, William, and Gene, sister Katherine, and sons Jay Gerald Tuomala and Robert William Tuomala.

She is survived by Daughter-In-Law Lee Tuomala, grandchildren Jay Tuomala, Christine (Scott) Hinners, Scott (Cindy) Tuomala, Michelle (John) Sergot, Jason Stern, great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and close personal friends Corrinne Hibbard, and Mike and Betty Illies, and many nieces and nephews.
