James W. Rhodes, 91, longtime Coleraine resident, died Friday, May 24, 2019 in the Grand Village, Grand Rapids.
Born February 21, 1928 in Herrick, IL, he was the son of Earl B. and Vesta (Barrett) Rhodes. When Jim was four years old, he moved with his family to Calumet where he grew up and graduated from Greenway High School in 1946. Jim was a 1952 graduate of Colorado State College, a teacher and coach for the Greenway School District for many years, a member of the First United Church of Coleraine and Bovey, and a U. S. Navy Veteran of WW II. He was an avid outdoorsman, athlete, world traveler, photographer, author and poet. Jim and Irene Ann McInnis Anderson were married on May 11, 1961 in Glasgow Scotland.
His Parents, Earl & Vesta Rhodes; his wife, Irene in 1996; and a sister, Jean Hardiman preceded him in death.
Survivors include his children, Heather Rhodes of Coleraine, Heidi (Louie) Wright of Lakeville, MN, Holly (John) Brison of Nashwauk, Hope (Jason) Steinke of Minneapolis, MN, and Heath (Lynn) Rhodes of New Hope, MN; grandchildren, Samantha Lokken, Lauren and Alicia Brison, and Declan Rhodes; and his wife, Catherine Anderson.
Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 PM, Friday, May 31, 2019 in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine, and will continue from 12:00 Noon until the 1:00 PM funeral service on Saturday, June 1, 2019 in the Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine.
