Hattie Ruth (Gravelle) Adams, formerly of rural Bovey, passed away on Thursday, March 1, 2018 in Sugar Brook Villa with her granddaughter by her side.
Born June 6, 1924 in Lexington, WI, she was the daughter of Richard and Alice (Tuttle) Gravelle. She moved to Grand Rapids when she was six and attended schools in Cohasset and Grand Rapids. Hattie and Eddy Adams were married on May 24, 1942 and were married for 51 years. They moved to Iron Range Township in 1952. Hattie was a mother, wife, and homemaker for many years and then went to work in various retail positions. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, knitting, crocheting, and other crafts.
Hattie was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Eddy; an infant daughter, Karen; a granddaughter, Jessica; two sons-in-law, Roy Butterfield and Larry Esko, her parents, and all but one of her siblings.
Survivors include her children, Kaye Larson of Tempe, AZ, Linda (Dick) Mottonen of Minnetonka, MN, Carol Butterfield of Bovey, Susan Esko of Grandy, MN, and Alan Adams of Talmoon; grandchildren, Scott (Mary) Mottonen of South Barrington, IL, Lisa (Mark) Runge of Grand Rapids, Bruce (Allison) Butterfield of Bovey, Becky (Jay) Lauer of Grand Rapids, Brenda Butterfield, of Aitkin, Mark (Kristen) Larson of Baltimore, MD, Jon Larson of Cheyenne, WY, Jodi (Rick) Barton of Isanti, MN, Michelle Alden of the Twin Cities, MN, and Amy Adams of North Branch, MN; 28 great grandchildren, four great great grandchildren; a sister, Agnes Bergstrom of Kennewick, WA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Per Hattie’s wishes, no funeral service will be held. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery, Coleraine. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff of Sugar Brook Villa who made Hattie’s last months happy ones.
