George G. “Butch” Markovich, 74 of Lawrence Township, MN, died on Sunday, February 24, 2019 peacefully in his home.
He was born on July 26, 1944 in Grand Rapids, MN, the son of George and Joyce (Hanson) Markovich, Sr. He was a lifelong Lawrence Township resident, he worked as a welder at National Steel, he was a member of the Minnesota Forest Zone Trappers Association, the Finnish Americans & Friends. He loved the outdoors, wood turning, trapping, hunting, fishing, spearing, gardening, countless hours of cribbage with family and friends and he did repair welding as a hobby. Butch “Gramps” cherished his two grandsons, Eric & Nic, and great-grandsons, Colten and Kaleb.
Survivors include his best friend, Karen L. Spotts of Chisholm, MN, his daughter; Kim (Casey) Venema of Lawrence Township, MN, and his son; Jerry (Mark Taray) Markovich of Lawrence Township, MN. Two grandsons; Eric (Becky) Venema of Lawrence Township, MN and Nic (Melissa ) Venema of Two Harbors, MN and two great-grandsons; Colten and Kaleb Venema. A brother; Jug Markovich of Lawrence Township, MN, a brother-in-law; Cotton Guyer of Taconite, MN, and an aunt; JoAnn (Larry) Krause of Grand Marais, MN, and many nieces and nephews, and his faithful four legged companion; Hunter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother; Ron Markovich, and a sister; Chick Guyer.
The family of Butch Markovich would like to thank Karen Spotts, his best friend, for being by his side and giving him the last best years of his life. Love you so much, Kim & Jerry.
There will be a Celebration of Life with a light lunch provided from 12:00-3:00 on Saturday, March 9, 2019 in the Lawrence Township Hall.
