Frank D. Serratore “Cheeco”, 87 lifelong resident of Itasca County passed away peacefully with family around him Friday, August 17, 2018 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Sauk Rapids, MN. He was just short of turning 88 on September 3.
Frank was a proud Iron Range man who was raised between Nashwauk and Keewatin by his parents Joseph and Domenica Serratore and was the youngest of five children who all preceded his death. Theresa Serratore, Angeline (John “Butch”) Sapan, Victoria “Vita” (Harold “Bud”) Durheim, and Thomas (Doris) Serratore. Frank was the last living from his generation in his family. He was a graduate of Keewatin High School and The University of Minnesota-Duluth. He was also a veteran who served in Korea in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps.
Frank married Sandra Loftman on September 29, 1956 and was married for 45 years before Sandra’s death in 2001. Frank and Sandy have five children, Frank (Carol) Serratore Jr., Tony (Crystal) Serratore, Joe (Kathy) Serratore, Tom (Cindy) Serratore, Juli (Todd) Scott, 14 grandchildren, Nina (Nathan), Nick, Tom, Tim, Carly, Carina, Samantha, Steven, Matt, Megan, Emily, Quentin, Jens, and Leo, and brother-in-law, Roger (Shirley) Loftman.
Frank will probably be remembered the most from the many students he taught as a high school history teacher. He began his teaching career in 1956 in Deer River and the last 18 years in Greenway of Coleraine where he retired in 1987.
Frank loved to garden, putz at his cabin on Turtle Lake, and bump into friends daily at local stores. To know Frank was to surely have a story to tell about him. Stories that will live on in a legacy of laughter.
Funeral services for Frank will be 11:00am, Tuesday, August 28, 2018 at Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine. The Rev. Scott Richards will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the 11:00 am memorial service at the funeral home on Tuesday. A private interment will be in Maple Hill Cemetery of Hibbing. Arrangements are with Peterson Funeral Chapel of Coleraine.
